This link to earthsky shows some beautiful high polar stratosphere clouds: http://earthsky.org/earth/wow-polar-stratospheric-clouds

We had some like this, though not quite as dramatic, that could be seen from home.

Anyone in the Cloud Appreciation Society (https://cloudappreciationsociety.org)?

The 1967 song "Both Sides Now" by Judy Collins is still one of my favourites, clouds being one of the subjects, the other being love.

I am not a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, but I am looking forward to what you will post in your new thread.

I didn't intend this to be more than one post, YesNo. But if others contribute it may well develop that way.

I also am not a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society.

I've never heard of the Cloud Appreciation Society, but I certainly do appreciate them, and also John Constable's cloud studies.

And I do like to photograph clouds...

We have just had the spring equinox, and this time of the year we have high cirrus clouds and temps in the low plus degrees. The cirrus clouds show up at dawn and dusk very well, changing colour as the sun rises and sets. Today it is quite warm, nice for a short walk.

There is now an online cloud atlas: http://www.livescience.com/58381-new-clouds-added-to-international-atlas.html.

See this, for example: An undulating asperitas cloud.

Yes, I was surprised at the variety of cloud formations, so now I understand why "cloud-spotting" is a popular pastime.

A great collection of pics. Some of them are quite ordinary, but others are just amazing. The way they can pile up in the sky.

An interesting thread Danik.
I have a question
clouds are as a result water condensation. Water is all around the planet. We are the main users and therefore anything to do with clouds is linked to the way we use or alter water and therefore climate change is linked to human activities.

Danik 2016
07-04-2018, 01:26 PM
I agree with you, cacian. What is your question?

I agree with you, cacian. What is your question?

Oh sorry Danik I think the question was going to be about
Is the water that we use/alter transform on planet earth is responsible for clouds made to look they are the reason for climate change?

"Mammatus clouds are pouch-like protrusions hanging from the undersides of clouds, usually thunderstorm anvil clouds but other types of clouds as well. Composed primarily of ice, these cloud pouches can extend hundreds of miles in any direction, remaining visible in your sky for perhaps 10 or 15 minutes at a time. People associate them with severe weather, and it’s true they can appear around, before or after a storm. Contrary to myth, they don’t continue extending downward to form tornados, but they are interesting in part because they’re formed by sinking air. Most clouds are formed by rising air. Mammatus clouds can appear ominous. But, in a way that’s so common in nature, their dangerous aspect goes hand in hand with a magnificent beauty."

They are not all that common, that is true.

I never gave a thought to that, cacian.
