Wuthering Heights is a great book, but its not for everyone. I read the book for school, and it wasnt always gripping. Some portions of the book are merely information, while others actually have some substance. However I would not say it is the best book I've ever read. Those who say so might want to re-evaluate that statement or read some more books. This book is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a romantic book in any way. If one were to search deeper into the book you would really see that both Catherine and Heathcliff were extremely self centered. They were into what they wanted and nothing else. Catherine let her social status get in the way of she and Heathcliff's happiness. Heathcliff was so overpowered by Catherine that nothing else in his life affected him, but her. In fact, I myself have been in the same situation before. The only diffeence is, I moved on and did not let this prevent me from finding love elsewhere. Heathcliff let Catherine rule him for hos whole life, even after she had died. He continued to torment his soul until Heathcliff's own death. Perhaps, if it were not for Catherine, Heathcliff may have even loved Isabella. We will never know if this could have been the case. Unfortunately both lived and died, never satisfied with what they had, when all they had to do in the first place was say what they wanted and let nothing get in the way. Here is a prime example of love gone wrong. What could have saved this relationship? A simple thing called communication, which is vital in normal, functioning relationships. Without this, the relationship can become quite dysfunctional.
