Rocket_Science, AKA "Rock" is indeed back, by popular request, after a long and inexplicable hiatus.
And I still don't know how things work around here. As before, I'm most likely posting this in the wrong sub-forum. Clearly I don't learn from my mistakes and think y'all are a bunch of losers since I disregarded (read: was too lazy to re-check) your advice. Anyway...
*Drumroll*
This is something I came up with sort of a while ago but didn't write down until tonight.
Once again it makes very little sense out of context— these are just a few paragraphs from a larger, and very rushed, rough draft.
The man, hunched and bent from age, limps down the beach. He’s unsteady on his feet, stumbling and hesitating as he makes his way forward, and his face is lined and sorrowful. He may be old, but he’s seen more than anyone of any age should ever have to.
The little girl, maybe nine or ten; blond and blue-eyed, seeming to some the very definition of innocence. She wears a light blue skirt and a sweater of a darker shade, and her bare toes bury themselves in the soft sand beneath them. She has secrets, but even I don’t know what they are. This girl, angelic as she may seem, is far too good at lying and hiding and deceiving than she has any right to be.
The boy, perhaps fourteen or fifteen, tall and lanky. He retains a dark tan into the winter, but maybe that’s just his skin tone, to match his dark hair and deep brown eyes. But possibly the more intriguing aspect of his appearance is his attire. He’s clad in only black board shorts. His dark grey shirt is bunched up in his hand. In temperatures hovering around thirty degrees, soaked by fog and spray, this boy seems impervious to the cold.
Who is this enigmatic trio? What are their goals? And why are they standing on a beach in the middle of the winter?
I have some ideas myself, I'm just wondering what you think.
Thanks for suffering through this.
