Julia and Winston's relationship is more of a defiance to Big Brother than love. The only thing they really have similar is the fact that they don't like the government and they want to defy it by making love. As they said in the book the first time they did it was not out of love but out of rebellion.

Winston and Julia's relationship symbolizes rebellion. They do this to fight back against Big Brother because they don't agree with the government. In that sense they are similar. They are not together because of love. They have absolutely no connection emotionally.
