Re-writing History

In the novel, Winston's occupation is to re-write history so it seems as if everything Big Brother has stated is correct. But then, Winston's job is also to make up completely incorrect news statements, such as what was done about the speech from Big Brother that informed the citizens about an achievement received by the FFCC, which Winston soon corrected to talk about a certain Comrade Ogilvy. Do you believe Winston's occupation, making up history so it sounds correct, connects to any occupations that exist today? What was Orwell trying to state about today's society?

I myself believe that Orwell was trying to communicate the idea that people will believe anything that is put infront of them. As long as something is reasonable, people will not go a long way to look up wether a certain person exists or the exact date that something occurred.

I believe that Winston's job relates to the media. The media is constantly changing its story, trying to make itself appear right, like Big Brother. Mostly everybody just goes along with whatever the media says blindly and doesn't question it.
