Like every1 else on this thread, I read it for English. I am not ignorant, I understand the book perfectly well, and I found it not quite my cup of tea. I found the book one depressing event after another, with only like one happy bit in the entire story. It is pretty bleak, and I think is less an example of love overcoming all, and more about how the love wasn't strong enough for Heathcliff to marry Catherine, which resulted in the suffering of everyone.

I don't think it was about Heathcliff and Cathy's love wasn't strong enough. I thought it was more about obsessiv love and how it affected everyone and everything it touched. I thought it was beautiful and loved it but I guess it's not for everyone and it is a bit depressing in places.

I'm reading it now for english literature and it's made me depresed twice already, and I'm not even half way through. By the way, does anyone have a clue what Joseph is saying  ? Everyone in my class is having trouble understanding him :argue: .

I don't understand all of what Joseph says but if you try and read it exactlty as it sounds it makes more sense.

I skipped over eveything Joseph said and replaced it in my mind with the braying of a horse outside.

I don't think that'll work for me. I'll have an exam on Wuthering Heights and I may need to talk about Joseph, I don't know. I can only guess what he's saying most of the time.

Well he really doesnt say much anyway. He's very religious and he often quotes the bible..things like that. I think there's maybe one very long paragraph of speech in the whole book, and yeah, I couldnt work it out apart from a rough idea. Other than that all he does is curse and tattle to his master, who he kind of hates anyway. If you really wanna know just spend some time on what he says and write it out then read the page again with your new interprutation...might work.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
