Sunday in Bangkok.

You never know in this city what to expect.

After breakfast, I decided to checkout one of the nearby massage parlours I had been to on previous trips; but getting out of the hotel was an exercise in its own right.

The big boys were in town for an international conference, and some were staying at the Peninsula Hotel. So I got into the lift on the 28th floor, straight into the Iranian Ambassador, bodyguards and entourage. Smart suits, well cut beards, shirts done up at the collar with no ties.

So in I enter; shorts, tank top, sandals and with my best English accent wish them a "Good Morning." I may not be of diplomatic corp status, and certainly don't need minders; but I am English. It is therefore important on such occasions to establish quickly the pecking order.

Anyway, quickly away from the melee of; police, security, limousines and outriders on the ground floor and down to the massage parlour.

The girls had all changed from the last time I was here, but I got a very pleasant tall, slender Thai lady to give me a feet, leg and arm workout. Very relaxing compared to a traditional Sunday back in Hertfordshire.

Back to the hotel and across the river to Jacks Bar where the carpenters were the second day running; taking up the floorboards over the river and replacing them. But they squeezed me in for a large Chang beer, pork fried rice and a couple of hell raiser gin and tonics.

Life is full of simple pleasures. The secret is to both recognise them and indulge.

Couldn't agree more to appreciating life's simple pleasure whether they're shoulder rubbing foreign government big wigs or sitting down to a fine meal at the river. Life throws prodigious distractions, but it also beckons pause to contemplate, appreciate, and cherish.
