What is the actual purpose of life? As far as I'm concerned, there is none besides what you make for yourself. There has never been an underlying implication from anybody or anything that suggested so -regardless if it was metaphysical or not, it has never occurred. This tells me that there is no intended purpose for anybody and that there never will be. Focusing on the importance of one's own individuality is nothing more then a reflection of how human beings view themselves more important then everything else in the world. Such a sense of self importance is also reflected in how we view each other and how we view certain skin colors and races as being superior to others because of how obsolete their ways of life were at some point -such as Native Americans being considered inferior to Europeans because they continued to live off the land. These types of viewpoints on life appear to be influential towards one another. Think about it. Though contradictory towards proper morality, the underlying fact remains; we are not as important as we think we are and there is no underlying reason as to why we are here. Try to live your life as successfully are you can and treat everybody else around you with respect.

The Secret - by Denise Levertov

Two girls discover
the secret of life
in a sudden line of
poetry.

I who don't know the
secret wrote
the line. They
told me

(through a third person)
they had found it
but not what it was
not even

what line it was. No doubt
by now, more than a week
later, they have forgotten
the secret,

the line, the name of
the poem. I love them
for finding what
I can't find,

and for loving me
for the line I wrote,
and for forgetting it
so that

a thousand times, till death
finds them, they may
discover it again, in other
lines

in other
happenings. And for
wanting to know it,
for

assuming there is
such a secret, yes,
for that
most of all.

Turn your heart to the Good despite the world's depravity and your own.

Are you assuming it comes with a meaning? Part of freedom is providing it with meaning. As for purpose, that may not be our own. When someone or something else consciouisly creates you, you were created for their purpose, not your own.

Good point about purpose.
