What's the difference?

After someone asks if they can have a drink of my beverage or a bite of my sandwich and they take it I tell them to hold on, I have this weird oozing sore inside my lip and let me get you some of my ointment the Dr. prescribed.

would salve sound better?

No, in that situation I think ointment definitely sounds scarier. Also, kudos to that way of dealing with people who make that unforgivable request. Ugh, it's the worst.

No, salve means "Greetings!" in Latin and would only have been taken as an invitation to further familiarities.

I guess I'll worry about that when I travel back in time to when Latin was a spoken language.

Hey, the Pope was looking for you, Papayahed. He said to say salve.
