Do any of you own a camcorder, shoot video and do any video editing? I have just taken an interest in this and would like to exchange knowledge and ideas with people, especially since I'm a total newb. But you knew that already. :eek2:

I have a copy of "YouTube Channels for Dummies" that I haven't read, but this thread might motivate me to read it.

I just skipped through chapter 6 about equipment. Apparently there are three tools you can use: (1) phone camera, (2) camcorder and (3) DSLR camera. The problem with the phone camera is the need to stabilize it. The problem with the camcorder is the inability to upgrade it. The problem with the DSLR has something to do with perhaps all of these. One needs tripods, audio and light equipment and then one needs software to put all this together. There was a sidebar about something called a "GoPro" camera which is inexpensive and good enough for YouTube.

Hopefully my ignorance will encourage someone to correct me.

I had not thought of something to do converting of media from one format to another. What about sound?

YesNo, I don't think you need to be concerned about those things. For phone camera, you just get a selfie stick like the one I have, which doubles as a phone tripod. As far as upgrades for camcorders, I'm not sure what you mean; I, for example, just got what I consider to be a reasonably priced (for what it is) Sony camcorder which shoots in full HD and has a built-in mic, though you can attach a better quality directional mic if you prefer. Great quality. DSLR, I believe, can get you the best quality (unless you buy a seriously expensive camcorder), but I don't know how a DSLR works, not being a photographer, so I opted for the camcorder, at least for now.

As far as editing, any video editor software out there includes ways of doing things with both the audio and the video you've recorded, plus added additional audio and special effects if you wish. It's all built into the software.

I am new to all of it, and am hoping people here who are into it can have an ongoing dialogue about their efforts, and maybe share video. Yes, I too am interested in eventually uploading to YouTube.

What video editor do you use? I only have the phone, but it is a largish Galaxy Note 4. I have seen tripod adapters for phones, but they don't fit the Note 4.

I have owned Galaxy phones since they came out, they have good cameras. After some investigation, I decided to go with Adobe Premiere Pro, for two reasons. First, it appears to be among the top rated editing suites out there. However, secondly, unlike other popular programs like Sony Vegas Pro and so on, you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for it. Adobe intelligently offers it as a $20/month subscription. All of their apps now, like Photoshop, are available in this way, as a cloud based resource, and you can choose which of them you want to add to your subscription. So at the moment I only have Premiere Pro, and thus get a top editor for twenty bucks a month.

That seems like the way software should be sold and used. I use Google's cloud with monthly subscription based on data usage as well as Adobe's cloud version of Acrobat which is still free since I don't have that many pdf documents. Is the performance adequate for Premiere Pro?

Well, I'm just starting to learn about Premiere Pro but I'm sure the performance is more than adequate, given that it's an Adobe product that loads of people use along with Photoshop. I'll let you know once I get into it proper loyk.

Isn't it about time someone asked what kind of videos TC is planning to make? Just saying...
