hello,
obviously i am not fluid with assets , where consequently precious little remains for book purchase. i aware of copy rights , i am in america. any free links to author's fiction or non-fiction , of writers that you deem interesting . i have done long and deligent readings in the classic domain, quite the opposite for recent literature since 2000. both periods are quite welcomed . i like non-boring writings, with a philosophic or human condition themes, whether satirical or dramatic, and other kinds of literature that tackles the former . men or women are insignificant , robots are, no no just a joke :hand: .remember only non boring, non redundant, and not hovering around semantics . hope to hear from you, thanks.

There is always the local library where you can get books. What are example of books you like?

local libraries might not be a recommended place to get serious advice on what you are searching.

Wouldn't all literature involve "philosophic or human condition themes"?

I do use references people in these forums discuss, but then I also query the internet or go to the local library. I admit the library is limited, but there are books on shelves near those you are specifically interested in that are sometimes useful.

I prefer being seen as seven and a half years old, but early twenties are closer to the truth though not quite close enough for legal work. I have children in their early twenties.

So what book would you recommend to me if I asked the question you asked? I am trying to get an idea of what you think is an acceptable philosophical approach to life.

I like your joke about robots (and I agree that men and women are insignificant). There are many free classics to be read at this site and even more to be downloaded at Project Gutenburg. But boring is in the heart of the beholder, so as YesNo says, a lot depends on your preferences. What classics have you found interesting so far?

short and very short stories ;Dickens, russell, borges ( with roughly dickens short sized stories, applied to all ) and this;http://www.tnellen.com/cybereng/harrison.html. polish literature, szymborsdka, kapuscinsski, gombrowicz and of course milosz ( if prose ) . in additon to interesting jewish writers, without too much jewish and holocaust themes , the likes of salinger , shalom auslander and margaret atwood. it is a shame that my knowledge of female writers is pathetic, please change that, but with NO
feminine themes involved . i know this is not as cute as the dickens, to use old language , but i hope to hear from you , thnx.

i have given names as mere examples, and not in any particular interest . are john gabries garcia marquez and tolstoy, nabokov ,lydia davis, ursula k. le guin and john sheever tthat interesting or semantisized ,so to speak ( when it comes to their really short novels,if provided ). thanx.

Well, if you are really looking for "philosophic or human condition themes," you may have to drop the "short to very short" requirement. The best of those are typically very long books (Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov or The Idiot, Tolstoy's War and Peace or Anna Karenina--that sort of thing). Chekhov's short stories are well regarded, though, so that may be a good place to start. I think Clopin knows them pretty well, so if he reads this maybe he can recommend a few. (I may actually download some from Gutenburg myself--I've been too busy to read long books lately). Another solution might be Voltaire's Candide. It's not a short story, but it is a short (anti-) novel and quite hilarious. And Thackeray's Barry Lyndon is only about 200 pages long--and fun! I hope that helps a little. Where "short to very short" is concerned, you're probably talking to the wrong guy. I don't often read a book less than 800 pages long. But maybe we can both try a little Chekhov for now. Good luck!

Those were nice stories from the perspective of creatures in situations where they could possibly be eaten.

How about modern jewish writers ,with non - jewish themes ?

Michael Chabon comes to mind... though his fiction often centers around jewish themes and archetypes.
