anonymous,
Of course you would think that Wuthering Heights was the most boring book. Why? Because you probably didn't even read it. If you are going to say it is a boring book, at least state why and don't leave a sloppy answer like that.
-Lynne

I read it for English, how can you say it is boring, there are few books with such distressing action scenes. Heathcliff repeatedly dashing Hindley's head against stone flags...

I have also read it for english, and for me, it wasn't a book that I would have read willingly. I almost dove for sparknotes.com to do the reading for me, but I forced myself to read it, and with my sadistic ways, loved the violent scenes. But as for the soap opera love story, I could have done without it. That killed it for me. Between attempting to understand the Yorkshire dialect and getting through the classic writing, I just didn't like reading it. But I will say that if Emily Bronte had added in more scenes where the characters bashed their heads against trees, this would be among my favorites. Other than that, it was a pretty boring book.

I unfortunately was never forced to read it so I didn't have the pleasure of knowing it until just a few years ago. I am not one for romance. I tend to indulge in horror more often than any other. However, the characters, especially Cathy and Heathcliffe are so well defined and the sameness of hatred and love, their partnership as two profoundly similiar emotions intrigued me. Perhaps when you are not forced to read it and take it upon yourself to really indulge in it then you may be able to appreciate it for the quality of literature that it is. Or perhaps when you are older, I assume you had to read it in high school?

If you currently enjoy the book, I recommend reading several chapters in a random order (possibly by dice selection) and see how much you like the non-sensical versoion 90% of us were forced to read.

Wuthering Heights is definitely not boring. Although I agree it is better to read a book at your own will, not forced. However, in literature, there are deeper meanings of each word that you have to take time to "taste" and understand. Don't make a hasty conclusion of your opinion.

Wuthering Heights is an excellent story, it is certainly not tedious you cant have read the whole book if you think that. It is a gripping book which you feel drawn to the story line! i found it hard to put the book down!
maybe if you saw the film of wuthering heights you would understand the story. and realise that is very intriguing.
I watched the film first and then read the story and found it so much easier to understand the structure of the story!
i agree that this has to be one of the most incredibly annoying books that i've ever read. I too had to read it for school and do an analytical exposition on it. Normally i like classic romance novel, but this is just stupid.

well that's your opinion and you are intitled to that, but you obviously are the kind of person who doesn't take intrest in anything that is actually thought provoking. the complete works of pokemon would probably be your type of read, something that doesn't take a lot of thought to read and enjoy. your loss.

How can you say that Wuthering Heights is boring? It is one of the most passionate, intriguing, exciting, complex, thought provoking texts even written. Emily Bronte broke the traditional forms of 19th Century literature to create a fantastic piece of writing. By all means say that you don't like it but surely do not suggest that it is boring!!
