The hem's started to go
A loose blue thread
pulled from tiny holes
along the matching blue fabric.
And it's left me annoyed
that I've one less thing
than I came away with this morning
But I probably won't take it back.

It's a little difficult to decide exactly what the core motivation of this piece actually is. It has many aspects. Exploitation of sweatshop labour, shoddy workmanship, the throwaway society, cheapness in the purchaser and item...

Why does the narrator "have one less thing..." when the thing only has a pulled thread and could easily be mended. The consumer society. Has the narrator never even sewn on a button? Imperfect? Throw it away...

Now me, I believe in wearing something until it disintegrates. I'll darn moth holes. When a garment is more darn that garment, well, maybe then its time to give it to the cat to sleep on. ;)
