What a year we're having for deaths of National Treasures. Victoria Wood is the latest to go, at the much too young age of 62. She was totally unique, a writer, performer, observer of real life and comic genius. If you haven't heard of her (I don't know how well known she is beyond this country) check out "Two soups" or "Acorn Antiques" and especially "The ballad of Barry and Freda" - which is an absolute tour-de-force of comic writing and timing, being both parochial and universal and hilariously true, juxtoposing middle class, middle aged icons (Hostess trolly, Womans Weekly) with a night of passion. Brilliant! She will be missed RIP.

I actually cried. I loved Victoria Wood - a fabulous talent, and one of my favourite writers and comedians. I had such an crush on her in my teenage years.

Just the other day I was listening to the fabulous Pam Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKRcm5v30tw

...and Two Soups is one of the finest comedy sketches there is.

I listened to a few of her videos. She was pretty good.

I agree with prendrelemick. She pricked all kinds of pomposity with her humour which was sometimes barbed but never cruel. I honestly feel I have lost an old friend. I only need to think of two soups and I smile, even though I feel really sad. Very few people are so universally admired.
