Hello,

What book editions do you find aesthetically pleasing as object? So apart from the text itself, to be sure.

Harold Bloom - Where shall wisdom be found is a good example for me. Beautiful dust jacket, nice typography, beautiful large pages, with good paper quality. A pleasure to hold.

Also most bibles do the trick. Especially old editions or a Douay-rheims bible

i think that's a fun question ruben, and while I do pay attention in part to the things you are referring to, nothing comes to mind by way of an answer.

I hope some other folks join in...

How-do Ruben,

Look no further than the Folio Society, a publisher of fine volumes based in London. I buy my books from no other. You must try to Google them...

I can add this ruben---I don't know if this qualifies under "aesthetics" but at the very least it does under books as objects---I like how an old book smells, and the feel of it in my hands.

I was waiting for that since seeing this topic.
For those with a budget, I wouldn't mind seeing some examples from your own library. ;-)

Leather binding feels good and I like fine, rice paper pages.

I read about 7 books in a row with a book mark ribbon. Now I feel for it automatically and miss it. I want to campaign for it to be compulsory.

Tumblr is just a blog platform. Actually its more specifically a microblogging platform that allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can post single image or videos with brief comments. I use it to post more extensive text than most tumblr users... but also post a lot of images. I ended up posting on tumblr after several other blog-hosting platforms censored various artworks that I had posted that included nudity. In some instances these were the most harmless nudes by artists like William Blake and Degas. As tumblr has long allowed imagery and even video that most would term "pornographic" I am fairly certain that my blog won't fall prey to censorship again. As there are examples of nudity in art work and photography throughout my blog that might be deemed as being of "adult" of NSFW nature it is possible that someone may not be able to access my tumblr blog if they are not registered or logged into tumblr or if they have safe content filters turned on. One of the problems of such filters is that they are not all that intelligent. I was unable to access various art education sites at the Getty Foundation while at my school because filters deem some of the art images to be of an adult nature.

Most of this blog post is also found on my LitNet blog:

There are 4 parts/pages to the blog as posted on LitNet.

I agree about the Folio society. Not cheap. But then you pay for quality. I bought a book today from Birlinn. "Set Adrift Upon The World" Not of the quality of Folio editions but substantial and, barring accident or careless exposure to light or damp, it should remain a well-knit and attractive book for decades.
