From the deep backwoods of the reader’s mind
Comes a distant ululation, as dog
Or dogs calling attention to themselves.
Perhaps trapped in a locked car or shed, or
Simply wanting attention, some petting
Or some food or water. Maybe some love
Would fill the need. Or maybe the dog is
Howling at some ungulates that are near.
Letting fancy run free for a while would
Fill that need, but some scratching behind the
Ears would also bring pleasure or some joy.

I can relate to the dogs in the backwoods of my mind who would stop if I scratched them enough, PeterL.
