i agree with you, the book was out of this world, H.G.Wells is outstanding. but i have to disagree with one of your comments, i found the film was great too, after reading the book and making up my own pictures of what the places would of looked like, it was nice to compare my imagination to that of the film producers. i enjoyed the film but the book is a classic and i hope many more people will read and enjoy it.

I read this book in the 5th grade, and in the many years since, I still haven't found a more captivating book. I was so disappointed that they deviated so badly from this book in the recent movie. Why couldn't they leave it be?

The only American author that approaches Wells' readability (that I've found) is William Goldman. Both are master storytellers, able to put you right there in the story. You're helplessly glued to your book until you've finished it.
