Had to read this for my 19th c. lit course. Interesing use of the "observationist" method with regards to tone and imagery. Very detailed...sometimes a little too much. Focuses on the (then) current introduction of Darwinian thought into Christian life. Dr. Moreau is "God" of his island and his Beast People are the followers who obey because of an intense fear of further mutilation. Prendick is simply the reader's only link into the world of Dr. Moreau and vivisection. His story is objective and dismal - and after his experiences, he can no longer function in a normal society.
