Knocked out, whoever saw the tool
shoved down through pipes as some blind mule
puffing protest out of its spleen?
Not everything that grows is green.
Hot spots can show a fact that’s cruel
or Nature’s deathless urge to fool.
Who can be sure about what is seen?
Like pent-up breath suddenly freed,
a fresher gust can blur the sight
of bitter truths that only fear can feed.
Denial fills a basic need
to shun the slide that’s prob’ly right
and see a flower, not a weed.
