In chronological order of publication, (of course the Christie and Du Maurier stories are from the 1930`s to the 60`s though collected much later).

1/ Wessex Tales (1888) - Thomas Hardy
2/ The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892) - Arthur Conan Doyle
3/ The Inimitable Jeeves (1923) - P.G. Wodehouse
4/ Echoes from the Macabre (1976) - Daphne Du Maurier
5/ Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories (1985) - Agatha Christie

I only came to read the short stories after reading the novels of the respective authors. Does anyone happen to prefer the short story as a medium as opposed to novels, or are you like me, a complete-ist ? (is that a word ? :out:).

For a long time, I preferred novels over short stories. But I slowly came to appreciate the creativity borne out by the constraints of the short form. Still, I can't find myself preferring any one form over another any more.

It's hard to think of 5 collection titles, but I can think of 5 authors of short stories pretty quickly:

1. Borges
2. Kafka
3. Carver
4. Hemingway
5. Nabokov
