What a way to start the year!

First David Bowie falls off his perch, and now Alan Rickman, that suave and dastardly villain of Die Hard and the otherwise execrable Kevin Costner Robin Hood - as well as the Potterine Snape, has joined the choir invisible. Hollywood villany will be forever diminished without his arch expression and sardonic tone to give evil a touch of British "class."

A fine actor with a good sense of humour. Perhaps the Almighty will take pity on him and employ his talent to good effect by allowing him to play the voice of God, a role he got some practice with in Dogma. Wherever he is, I wish him well and trust that in that great theatre in the sky he will continue to garner rave reviews.

RIP Alan Rickman. May his star never fade.

Oh no! Really?

That's very sad. Die Hard is one of my favourite popcorn movies, largely because of Rickman's superb scenery-chewing villain. And then there's his wonderful turn in the ridiculous Robin Hood movie...

I was very shocked when I heard, and he was just 69, like Bowie. I too, like most I guess love Die Hard, you can't celebrate Christmas unless you watch Die Hard in my opinion. Oh and I love Dogma, seen it a million times, he was so annoyed with God and her behaviour, very funny.

And of course so many more movies and characters, I guess Alice in Wonderland will be his last.

Ahh Robin Hood, I have to watch that again. When Leonard Nimoy died I watched The Voyage Home (couldn't bear to watch The Wrath of Kahn even though it's my favourite), maybe tonight will be a Rickman movie night.

Just rewatched Die Hard - such an enjoyable film! Total popcorn, of course, but popcorn of the highest calibre. And Alan Rickman was just wonderful in it.

We watched "Die Hard" on Christmas Eve. I love that movie, and Alan Rickman's portrayal. So many iconic rolls. He broke my heart as the morally elusive yet heroic Snape-and how many actors could pull that off? And I loved him as Captain Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, a master class of understated acting.

Have watched: Quigley..., Harry Potter *, and Galaxy Quest all very recently prior to Alan's passing. Perhaps the media minions in the know were preparing his fans; I was certainly clueless. I haven't had the honor to see his other work, other than Die Hard many years ago (which was also getting on-air play, though I missed out (I think it was R-rated) ) so I will have to recalibrate my radar. Harry reaping Snape's tears, with the side-story of the young Snape and Lilly coming into focus, breaks my heart upon each viewing.

Alan was a rare talent; the world a little less brighter for his passing.

I rewatched Dogma and I am planning to see Bob Roberts later this weekend. I didn't really recognize him until the Harry Potter movies.

I just watched Dogma again too, still love it. I have to admit that I haven't seen the last 3 or 4 Harry Potter movies but I have heard some spoilers about Snape, maybe I'll have to check it out.
