As the sun sets in your eyes
through the clouds
strains a filtered guise--
the scattered pixels from
the grainy carbon of our daliance
retreating from the horizon.
Left on the cerebral cusp
veiled membranes, the residual,
twilight's gray shadows
adjoined to love's last glint.
From twilight's pleated folds
streams a coppertone afterglow

The vestment of ordination
that engendered doting beams
yielding a hundred, gold-tinted repasts
that were sacrificed on our dedicated hearth
sheds its sparkling cloak
fades into the deep divide
sharing only the reflections
of our spent days

In its stead,
a sunken orbital sphere
peers through the dark mist;
its pale disk but a counterfeit sun
sending pallid beams
with shorter wave lengths
that can only trace the surface
but never more penetrate
my cold, lonely heart

"Spent days" seems an odd metaphor. Do we actually spend our time? I hope your heart feels better.

Yes, I think so. The sunset signifies that the sun's energy has been expended for the day, likewise the couple's days have culminated into an exhaustive and unfulfilling expenditure of time.
