The significance of 1984 in the world today

1984 was a thrilling, attention-grabbing, and eye-opening piece of dystopian literature. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a book that has you continuing to turn the page, and enjoys veering off the “normal path” to learn more and also change the whole storyline. 1984 is an eye-opening book because our society is getting closer and closer to the society that exists in 1984. This book is a great book for high schoolers to read because they are the future of our world and future is becoming more and more like 1984. What George Orwell has created in 1984 is truly brilliant yet disturbing to see our world forming into the world that Winston lives in. 1984 has changed my very own perspective on the world around me. The book was fantastic and a great read.

im concerned about authoritarianism on both sides of the political aisle and also one particular side's seeming propensity for historical revisionism and the redefining of words to mean something other than their original meaning. its been years since ive read 1984, but I have a memory of what ive just written being somewhat central to the story.

I completely agree with the comparrasson to the modern world today. With new technology, such as a phone, you could be constantly being watched with not one clue about it. Our free society has turned into one that is under surveillance. This book raises the concern of how much does the government really know about us? What powers do they have over us? Can they have a constant watch on us and we don't even know it?

We're well past the ability/technological capacity to do what is done in 1984.

As for intention, 1972 was the first instance I remember of a pollie absolutely denying a previous statement and everybody rolling over and letting him.

We already live in that world, to the extent that we let it happen.

1984 is a great tool to make people be aware of the world around them and what it can become. That's why I love the book so much.
