I have to write a 4 page (MLA style) essay over orwell's dystopian society with one of the three topic
1.) "The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the greater bulk of mankind, happiness is better" -George Orwell
2.) power is not a means, it is an end.
3.) What makes an ethical governmental? How does one know when government is engaged in unethical behavior?

Any advice? HELP!

Sounds like you could refer to some political philosophers. Jean-Jacque Rousseau wrote a tract called, The Social Contract, or Principles of Political Right. It was he who wrote, 'Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains'. 1) Also sounds like a Utilitarian argument, so maybe refer to Jeremy Bentham. For 2) maybe Machiavelli, who wrote The Prince, or Thomas Hobbes, who best known work was The Leviathan. He wrote that the state should have the monopoly on violence, and that people should not seek to overthrow the ruler, even a repressive one, because power vacuums are worse. For 3) maybe John Stuart Mill, or for someone more up-to-date, John Rawls.
