What a way to be;
stuck between wants and failures,
distended with imprisoned pride,
sleeping as if by doing so
you were chipping away at something-
What a way to try;
Just a little at a time, and
not much at all.
What a way to want to try;
What an unsettling thing it is
to have to do this at all.
It’s always too easy to drift away, you find,
and too often you do.
But then you see something.
And it’s exactly like the first time you got high
or drunk
or both at the same time
And that thing came at you through the air in the room,
That first thing that made you realize
that it had been way too long
since the last time you felt like laughing
for no reason at all.
