Hello everyone , I need a good analysis for the poetry of Shakespeare's Sonnet 12 , here's the sonnet :

When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls all silver'd o'er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence

I think what you need to do here is to provide YOUR analysis first. Doing so will spur an intelligent conversation about the poem, something that most people here enjoy. Without your initial attempt, however, most people will see this as a simple petition for them to do your homework for you.

1/ Translate it so you understand every single line .
2/ Look for development of the argument -
3/ - in conjunction with the way it is set out - paying attention to the grouping of lines and ideas, in particular the sestet and the couplet at the end.
4/ Note any imagery and significant words. eg, is the clock just a clock?
5/ Note the rhyme
6/ Note the rhythm
7/ Research the context - his other sonnets for instance.
8/ Draw your own conclusions referring to what you have written above.

Expect a solid C+ or B. To get more, you might research 'The Sonnet' -how it works, what it's for, what it should be. Also check out and use the correct literary terms - all dead easy with google.
