When I was young, I read a poem in my high school English Literature class that recounted the thoughts of the poet as he imagines himself watching the progress of the Earth rotating and countries moving from dawn to sunset, the metaphor being that his own country, the United States, then at the noontime of its power, would decline and pass into the dark night of oblivion. What was the name of that poem, and who was the author?
