I second your yawning dude with regards to Downton Abbey. It's Upstairs Downstairs for the very recently lobotomized. No wonder it's so popular with today's viewing audience.

Aww, I like Downton Abbey! I love the costumes and all the different English accents especially the servants', and besides I do get Downton Abbey here, but haven't any chance of watching Cider with Rosie. :S

It was good as far as it went, but to try and do it in one 90 minute go was daft, it should've been a six-parter at least.

However, I nearly got that attack of warm and glowing nostalgia - which is what the book is all about.

In fact as I watched I became aware I didn't remember much about the actual episodes in the book, even though I've read it several times. What I remember are feelings and impressions and the beauty of the language.

I am sorry that I missed this but I love the book so much that maybe it was a good thing to miss!

Every time I read this book I remember the dusty, glowing late afternoons of my childhood. .. It is like breaking a warm loaf of bread, with its floury coating still intact.
