I heard great people like Tolstoy, teddie Roosevelt, JFK, harold bloom, etc.read thousands of words per minute? Does speed reading come with being a genius?

Could a moderator please edit the title to change we're to were? That was a mistake of the autocorrect of my kindle.

When I was a teenager, many decades ago, my uncle bought my siblings and I a mechanical flash card to help us improve the speed of our eyes to pick out words on a page. I did try it and still had the gadget, but it didn't do much good for me. I still read rather slowly although I hope I am able to assimilate the ideas and enjoy them better with age.

I hope great minds are not measured by how fast they read. Otherwise my own scores would go way down.

Think about it. A computer can "read" very fast, but it is mindless. There must be something else besides the quantity of text one consumes that characterizes a "great mind".
