what these phrase refer to in the following sentence: "and yet so" " and would it were not so"

" 'tis so strange, and yet so. you do not know the world. You are too single and too honourable. I know it well. And would it were not so, but wisdom comes with winters. My hair grows grey..."

And yet so = but even so, it is true

And would it were not so = and I wish it were not so

The second phrase seems to refer to the writer wishing he/she wasn't old and knowledgeable about life as he/she has discovered it. The first phrase implies that whatever is being discussed may seem strange and out of the ordinary but acceptable none the less. Just saying.

I believe it means one track minded or limited in perception to one mode of thought-not easily changeable and perhaps a tad too focused on what is perceived the one way of looking at something.

One single = 1

Too singles = (1 + 1)

(1 + 1) = too

When are they going to teach poets to do math? :)

Cacian, don't listen to Pompey! "Too single" - I think the poet means "you are a man apart, not like the others, not like the common crowd."

Yes - singular can mean outstanding, not like others.
