I find the book really hard to get into. I'm reading the prose version for my Classical Civilisations GCSE and it just seems to be lists of people's ancestry- although this is supposedly the genre of the book. Odysseus as a character does not appeal to me at all. He is bigheaded, cheats on his wife by having various lovers and kids and thinks it's clever and brave to poke some poor cyclops in the eye with a lump of wood. It's ridiculous. It's a bit bloodthirsty and cruel really and odysseus is a rubbish leader. Just count the number of times he has slipped on the leadership front resulting in his men being killed- he lacks the discipline to control a group of men.
