Authors and books I prefer are Douglas Addams, Chuck Palahniuk's early works (Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Survivor), and some Tom Robins, specifically Jitterbug Perfume and Still Life With Woodpecker. They each have great characters and riveting stories written in their own entertaining style, and I am looking for something along those lines. Thanks in advance!

All of the excellent novels below rely on some degree of irony and/or satire. I highly recommend them all:
The Crying of Lot 49--Thomas Pynchon
Ubik--Philip K. Dick
White Noise--Don DeLillo
The Music of Chance--Paul Auster
Snow Crash--Neal Stephenson
Suttree--Cormac McCarthy
The Messiah of Stockholm--Cynthia Ozick
Operation Shylock--Philip Roth
Wise Blood--Flannery O'Connor

If you like Douglas Adams why not try some other English masters of comedy like Evelyn Waugh and PG Wodehouse?
