Forum members, I remember a short story I read back in elementary school, and for a long time I've looked for the name of it or even the author's name but with no luck. Hoping someone here can help me.
The story is told from a younger person's pov, probably a young teenager, who lives in a remote community. This person for whatever reason stops eating the food and starts to experience new emotions/feelings (especially about the opposite sex and about how leaving the community is 100% off-limits).
Eventually a decision is made to leave, and from what I remember there was only one road out. The main character occasionally has to unclothe and try to cool himself/herself because aircraft are heard overhead and the thought of heat-seeking technology is a concern. Eventually a new city is reached and the story ends with the main character looking at the new community from the outside.
Any ideas?
