Sadly, I've just learned that Edgar Froese, founder and leader of the German electronic band Tangerine Dream, passed away suddenly in January at age 70 of a pulmonary embolism. His son Jerome, who was a member of the group from 1990 to 2006, has said that Tangerine Dream will not continue without his father.
I actually haven't cared much for their music since Chris Franke left in 1987, but that period from about 1974 (when Franke discovered sequencers) until then was just amazing. I can't think of another group that sustained such a high hit-to-miss ratio over 13 years and two distinct musical styles.
