Best books on American history wrote before 1900?

I realize this may not be the most appropriate forum for this topic but nonetheless would anyone happen to know of any? I am working on a project which requires me to really sharpen my knowledge of the United States (19th century) and I would like to use source material from at least prior to World War One.

Any help is much appreciated!
