There's icons and there's Icons. Very sad news.

It must be interesting and confusing, rewarding and frustrating, as an actor to be so identified with a fictional character you've portrayed; on the other hand, it was a character he created and so there must have been a lot of Leonard Nimoy in Spock. Did you know that he wrote two autobiographies? The first in 1975 was called I Am Not Spock; the second in 1995 was titled, I Am Spock.

I read I am spock and loved it...and what you said is true, he talked about that throughout in the book...and vice versa also. one illustration I remember was his telling about his wife yelling at him, saying "stop it, youre doing it again!" and he asked "what?" and she said, "youre being spock!"
I hope this doesn't sound irreverent, in fact, I see it as just the opposite---if you have never seen the clip of big bang theory where penny gives Sheldon a Christmas present of leonard nimoy's signature, its just precious.
and a later episode where nimoy's voice inhabits a spock action figure in Sheldon's dreams, is very very funny.

I never watched much Star Trek, but his performances in Fringe were utterly enthralling. A very fine actor indeed.

Farewell Mr. Nimoy you were a TV staple in the Gurgle household with the likes of Star Trek and the series “In Search Of”. Not much compares to eating a Swanson’s on a TV tray while Leonard Nimoy talks to us about Bigfoot or UFO’s.
You name it, it seems that Nimoy played a major role or had a cameo appearance, narrated it, directed or wrote it.

Oh come on, you know someone was bound to post this eventually, so let’s get it out of the way:

Here's 21-year-old Nimoy as a Martian invader in the first chapter of the sadly mediocre serial Zombies of the Stratosphere

when I heard he had passed I put The Voyage Home on, I am a huge ST fan and always have been. I have a Spock quote in my signature and I named my first dog Spock, he is 13 now.
Leonard Nimoy also made music, wrote poetry and was an artist and photographer who celebrated the female form in any size and shape, my brother and I have often talked about how great it would be to own an original Nimoy.
Even though it must be strange being remembered mainly for one role, he seemed to embrace it, LLAP was his signature everywhere
I guess Live long and prosper doesn't fit here so R.I.P
