View Full Version : Dawn's Shade of Gray

Past, Present, Future
in dawn's shade of gray
greet my bleary eyes.
A stumble, illusions of night
mark my first steps
cloud my vision.
Through the lighted hallway
on the threshold a promise;
a blank page, no wrinkles, blots
but carbon prints, recurring echoes
obscure. Black & white reels roll;
a rehearsed medley unfolds:
percolating coffee pot, popping toaster
sizzling frying pan
shrouded by, then enveloped in steam;
through the morning fog: benedictions,
fragmented scenes, fragile outlines
of fleeting memories, faint faces,
yesterday's baggage.
The shower head whizzes
awakens the pores, washes clean:
dead skin, burdens, cares
down the drain.
Into the bedroom
sunlight, shadows blip through curtains:
premonitions, worries, anticipation.
On the dresser, a polo and khakis:
laundered, pressed, neatly folded
containing threads already spun,
manifests of my current tastes.
Overlaying the coiffed guise
protruding through the seams
a grainy pattern for success.
Tucking away reflections,
dismissing banal procedures; I
double time through the living room,
briefly pausing
at the seminal junction of:
yesterday, today, tomorrow,
then walk through the door.
