I knew that I should call you
as I felt it in my bones,
you had a right to hear from me
on one of your two phones,

because, I’m fairly certain, it’s
your birthday sometime soon,
I wouldn’t want to let it pass
unmarked without the tune;

I must confess that I forget
the day on which it falls,
this week is highly probable
or next, as I recall.

Anyway, it is this month,
I’m sure it isn’t next—
Oh dear, it was last, you say;
I hope you’re not too vexed.

But better late than never, eh?
I’ve sent you a nice card
and I’ve bought you a fine present
so our friendship won't be marred.

Aquariuses and Capricorns of all the world, raise! And Pisces also, for they come next... and let's do the lottery to whom the card will go... :wink5:

Ah, the horror! Divination lies beyond my scope, I fear. I can't even work out what's going on right in front of me :D

Sweet Bar, thanks for reading, and rescuing this from ignominious obscurity.

Live and be well - H

I don't know what sign we are in this time of year, but your poem reminded me that my sister's birthday is a week from now.

One should never forget a sister's birthday. Glad to be of service, oh, and thanks for reading. :)

Had a nice lil' giggle over this one, dear H. Reminds me how once I sent my mom a b-day card, but on her b-day forgot to call. I called the day after; mom was more than pissed, so I tried to placate her by asking: "Didn't you get my card?" And she answered: "You send a card to an acquaintance, not to your mother!" Now I call. And never ever will send a card again.

Actually, modern tech is making it harder to forget birthdays. The world's computers keep reminding one, whether one wants them to or not...

Thanks for reading, Dieter, and for the lesson in the social dynamics of familial relationships. If everyone did this, it would put whole segments of the greetings card industry out of business, including those writers of syrupy verse, which is no bad thing in my opinion! :D
