Hello all --
I am currently working on a project about characters and/or authors that collect things during 1860-1950 (roughly) -- do any come to mind?? I feel as though I have missed a critical text in my readings and I call upon you all for help! These can be characters and/or authors that have collections or constantly collect things - books, bottle caps, pictures, clothing, jewlery, etc. Please let me know if anything comes to mind - your aid is more than appreciated!

Laura Wingfield collected her glass menagerie. Nero Wolfe puttered about with his Orchids, if that counts as a collection. If I think of any more, I'll let you know.

There's a character in Herman Melville's Bartleby the Scrivener that collects things... can't remember which one, believe it's a minor character though. Vladimir Nabokov (an author) was an avid collector of butterflies, often travelling simply to find new species. Most of his American novels fall slightly out of the given period, although Bend Sinister (1947) does fit.
