View Full Version : Trying to find a John Donne poem describing his mistress in unsavoury terms
Does anyone know which one I mean? It's one where he talks about her having bad breath or smelling bad or something similar.

Nope, but I'll look for it. I mean, it'll probably take me a week or two if I am able to, I go slowly; but I'll look for it. :-)
Thanks. Been searching for it online and getting absolutely nowhere.

There's Shakespeare's sonnet "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun," is that what you mean?

Still not found it yet; but I have learned reading Donne poetry and listening to Bothy Band is a very lovely and happy experience. :)
My plan is just to read through all of them 'til I find it, or not, but in either case, I'll get back to it now!

You know, I think that's it (http://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/my-mistress-eyes-are-nothing-sun-sonnet-130)! Thank you. I'll have to check though. A friend brought it up and she was sure it was Donne. But then, I was too. Pretty sure you've got it.

Good plan. I think I may do that too, even though I'm pretty sure I've found it now and it wasn't Donne.

To be fair to you and your friend, that is a very Donne-like poem!
Thanks, yes, and, except for the sonnet structure, not very Shakespeare-esque!
