Three Words

December 2011

Darling, you are barely
here, but still you manage
to get, even
the wrong words to rhyme,
most times.

Yet, three words
are not quite enough, even
though you are quiet,
you know.

The lines define you, with
each small hour, time
seemingly falls behind you.
Luring you to look back,
each and every time.

Forget what you were told,
or what you know from
your dreams of virtues
of a young boy.
For you are at the halfway
point, thus colliding with age.

Break the rules darling,
make your own pattern.
Even if it means
contending with that of
the fleeting shadows.

Show me what you want,
It is your grace which drives
me, to somewhere only you
and I know.

And even as I find
myself constantly looking
behind me, for you,
still, all I need is,
three words...

The first 4 lines really put me into this poem. From my own reading of the story I can see someone who is trying to get his partner to say these three words but time had been ungraceful to the partner that he hardly remembers to say the three words the writer wanted to hear most.

Good poem, loved it. Though I really don't like seeing "thus" in poems, its not a beautifully sounding word if I say it outloud but that is my unprofessional opinion.
