Aphorism #82 Drain Nothing to the Dregs, neither Good nor Ill.

A sage once reduced all virtue to the golden mean. Push right to the extreme and it becomes wrong: press all the juice from an orange and it becomes bitter. Even in enjoyment never go to extremes. Thought too subtle is dull. If you milk a cow too much you draw blood, not milk.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/ArtOfWorldlyWisdom?d=yIl2AUoC8zA (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/ArtOfWorldlyWisdom?a=7nHdYK8OvQc:s5ns8zgknzg:yIl2A UoC8zA) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/ArtOfWorldlyWisdom?d=qj6IDK7rITs (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/ArtOfWorldlyWisdom?a=7nHdYK8OvQc:s5ns8zgknzg:qj6ID K7rITs)

This reminds me of Aristotle's definition of virtue in the Nicomachean Ethics. The two definitions are fairly similar. I wonder if Balthasar was inspired by it. I have to agree with this concept of virtue - it is equivalent to saying that we have to balance all aspects of our life (work, home, family) because if we ignore any aspect of our life we are doing ourselves (or our loved ones) an injustice. If we lose our job that affects our family. If we spend all hours of the day at our job, that too affects our family. The closer we get to a balance, the happier we become.
