The Rhythm of Rhyme

A poet does not rhyme words
in symphonic accord
to titillate the trained ear
nor strum acoustic medley
to please vulgar drums
nor build a bridge
over the divide
to quicken the journey
but appends the phonetic scheme
to complement the whole
to support, then transport the body
with feet clicking in rhythm
giving the reader's mind tread
to smoothly transport his thoughts
fingers lightly tapping
on a window pane,
the reader's psyche,
opening a symmetrical conduit
to the next corridor
