View Full Version : The Unrequiting Glare from her Eyes

Satin flaps fling open
the shades flutter
in the morning air
the foggy clouds
on her turquoise lens
quickly disintegrate
then the brilliant glow
of a thousand suns
gleams from her star-studded eyes

Then she glimpses my face
and the white Lilly patches
are suddenly dilated
the blood pressure pulses
the mercury thermometer
crests to the orbital cusp
a seething, red tide
blooms on the banks

I seek shelter
but the boiling tempest
crests over each levy
and the curdling foam
strikes my beach wall
then with precision
her blow darts
deliver their venom

As the storm subsides
and the steam evaporates
my crestfallen eyes
focus on the calm center
but the wax, turquoise shells
that filtered then refracted
the sun's, dawning rays
sparkle no more

A dingy, green film
occludes each rim
and deep, murky caverns
appear in the background
cold vapors cloud the brim
and dry, empty channels
shadow the dark recesses
of the sentient corridor

Receiving no glint of hope
only a clammy draft
the condensing, dark clouds
seeded with doubt and fear
reach their dew point
and the tears of remorse
pour from my ducts
and their clinging salts
inflict the sting of rejection

Left with no breach
stranded on the periphery
of her hemisphere
I turn away
downtrodden and alone
but unable to escape
the palling glare
from her unrequiting eyes
