Gray and Grey

I know the spelling rule: grAy in America, and grEy in Europe, but can I use the different spellings for tone? To me gray and grey are different colors. Gray is bright, shining, and just a happy looking shade. Grey is dark, gloomy, and depressing. I think it has something to do with how "a" is round and inviting, while "e" is crouching and trying to keep it to itself. Am I just crazy or does the spelling of gray/grey change the color for you too?

Well if you are only writing for yourself, then go for it. Who cares? But don't expect your personal take on the two spellings to carry over to other readers. In fact, it is likely to be taken by some as an affectation. Good luck with it!
