Wide Wind

The birds have flown by again
sensing one direction
with one set of eyes;
allowing a whole flock
to share a single vision
upon a wide wind.

I wonder if their hearts pulse
with the same synchronicity
of their beating wings?
Or their blood course
through the arcs of their veins
in unison with the curves of their ascent.

What wildness could guide
such a perfect assembly
in such perfect harmony?

They must feel the wind between them
and anticipate the slightest breach of its angle
by the feathers of their trusted leader;
following by directive of their very nature,
a shared vision,
upon a wide wind
uniting them with their destination.
