I grew up in a house of boys,
The only girl there was.
I first learned to fight for my toys -
Then to be heard and loved.

I was always hard as stone;
The neighbourhood girls they left me alone -
I even went through school that way -
And that's just how I thought I'd stay.

Then I fell in love with him;
And this family took me in...
The family in which you've been,
Happy and for so long thriving...

Sister in Law;
I've never had one before,
I've never known a girl's kindness and grace...
Sister in Law;
After the struggle and war...
You've helped make our world
A kinder place.

I remember before I met you,
When he spoke your name:
I wished that he'd forget you
And over his heart you'd lose claim.

I didn't understand then;
You would be such a good friend -
So hardened and twisted was I -
I failed to see you were just happy as my

Sister in Law;
After the struggle and war...
You helped make our world
A kinder place.

You were there holding my hand
When he and I became three;
And I knew how well you'd understand,
What it means to be just that happy.
We share joy just the same as pain -
And we'll share some more if we're ever to gain...
A Sister-in-Law:
A woman with our family name.
