I'm referring specifically to the French surrealist movement. You know, authors like André Breton, Jacques Baron, and René Crevel. However, I'd like to hear from fans of other surrealist movements including those who appreciate contemporary works which incorporate surrealism.

What are your favorite pieces and authors? What do you like about surrealism? Why do you think surrealism is not quite as popular today?

I've always dreamed of having a close-knit group of surrealist writer-friends. Unfortunately none of my current friends appreciate surrealism. It's incredibly difficult to find literary journals who are interested in actual surrealism and I wonder if a surrealist novel like Nadja or Les Champs Magnetiques could become popular today. The idea of a literary movement which rebels against ultra-rational thought is quite appealing.
