Hello Everyone,

Hope all is well with everyone out there. I'm doing to best to finish up my BA in English by Christmas time and have begun looking through some authors I'd be interested in reading, possibly in between graduation and beginning graduate school. There are a few authors I get good vibes from, like I will enjoy their works, namely Borges and perhaps Pynchon, among many others. My question is: is there a "good" place to start with Borges, a certain order? I was just curious and was hoping to hear from anyone interested. If you wouldn't mind throwing in a bit of why you like, love, or dislike his work, please feel free as well. Thank you all very much and have a great day!

Ficciones (Collected Fictions) is often the one-stop solution for new readers looking for acquaintance with Borges's work. But if you want a slender collection that sets the tone for further reading, you may start at Aleph and Other Stories, 1933-1969. Edited and translated by Norman Thomas Di Giovanni (first published 1970). This will introduce you to Borges's early stories and urge you to read more of him, as it did me.

the thing about writers like Borges is that they write in a different language other then English.
to get the feel of what they are about you have to read them in their own native language.
to read them translated is a true lost in translation. it is neither here or there me think.

In the case of Borges, he helped to translate himself to english back with Di Giovanni, so you can have a flavour of both :D
Ficciones or Aleph, his most notable collection of short stories (or watever collection you have in english), for his poetry, I guess you can have a taste of it with Book of Sands, his essays you can go with something easily like his prologues or something more divine like his Divine Comedy speeches.
