Hi everyone,

I hope for fun and interesting discussions on this forum. I am a psychologist trying to write a book about a possble union of buddhism and western psychology (very ambitious, I know).

I am actually searching for a scene in Marcel Prousts In search of time lost. I remember reading it 25 years ago, but I can't remember where in that enormous work the scene was. Maybe someone here knows? It is a scene where the main character listens to his alarm clock ticking (perhaps lying in bed) , and he notices that he can hear just about any rhythm in the ticking of the alarm clock , if he tries to. So he imputes any rhythm he wants on rhythm rhytm of the alarm clock, and then actually hears that imputed rhythm. I would like to use this scene as a quote in my book, as imputation is a very important principle in buddhism. Could anybody tell me where in Prousts work I can find this scene? I would be very grateful.

kind regards,
